How two men defrauded car dealers with fake bank alerts, cheques in Lagos
A victim, identified only as Ifeanyi was said to have raised the alarm after he discovered that the transaction conducted with them was fraudulent.
This reportedly led to their arrest on Tuesday.
According to Vanguard, the suspects had succeeded in issuing fake bank alerts and stealing cars from dealers on several occasions.
Ifeanyi revealed that he became suspicious of the transaction after he allegedly received bank transaction alert for the payment of the vehicle, adding that he decided to follow his suspicion by confirming if the payment had reflected in his account from the bank.
He said he was later informed that no money was deposited in his account.
Another victim who didn’t want his name mentioned in print said “These same guys were close to being caught before today (Tuesday).
“The last time it happened, the bank server was down so they just allowed them to go.
“Later we found out that it was a fake alert, God has exposed them today,” he added.
Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Dolapo Badmos said the suspects confessed to have succeeded with two vehicles some time ago from the New Way Park in Berger after being nearly lynched by some angry people.
“They are currently in police custody but the case is yet to be reported at the Kirikiri Police Division,” the PPRO added.
