Chibok girls: Fraudsters asking government for money to negotiate their release – Buhari
Buhari made this known through his spokesman, Femi Adesina, in a statement during a meeting with archbishops of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion.
According to the statement, the president will never fall for the antics of fraudsters.
The statement said, “While the rescue and safe return of the remaining Chibok girls remain a top priority of his administration, he will not fall for the antics of fraudsters.
“President Buhari said that his administration will continue to insist on a thorough authentication of the identities and bona fides of any persons or groups claiming to have custody of the girls before entering into negotiations with them,” the statement added.
Recall that over 200 pupils of the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State were reportedly abducted in April 2014 by Boko Haram.
Under Buhari’s command, and aided by Nigeria’s neighbours, the army has recaptured most territory lost to the group.
The first of the girls held captive since the mass kidnapping was found alive last month.
A second girl who was rescued days later, is believed to have been taken in a separate abduction.
