The management of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, has disclosed that four more people have been killed in an attack by suspected cult members.
The university management, while confirming the killings to Channels Television, said that one person had been killed on Monday, but they found out on Wednesday that four other persons had been killed in what seemed like a retaliation attack.
The suspected cult killings occurred at Flat 2, Block D of Chammah Hostel where three persons were killed including the gate man at the hostel, according to some students.
Co-tenants at the private hostel located just beside the South Core campus of the University were also seen fleeing the school premises.
Although, six suspects have been arrested by the Police, the Commissioner of Police in Benue State, Mr Paul Yakadi said that the identity of some of the victims were yet to be confirmed.
The Deputy Registrar, Information and Police Relations at the University, Rosemary Waku, confirmed the claims of the students and called on staff and students of the institution to remain calm while the university authority works to ensure safety.
She confirmed that the university had been shut down for two weeks to allow the crisis settle down.
The killing of the students at the university is reminiscent of similar attacks and counter attacks where scores of students were killed in 2003.
