Five members of the militant gang who carried out the recent abduction of Oniba of Ibaland, Oba Goriola Oseni, have been arrested by operatives of Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response team, IRT. Vanguard gathered that the suspects, who were apprehended within Iba and Iyan-Ipaja areas of Lagos, were picked up few hours before and after the Oba was released from captive around 7:30pm last Saturday, by the IRT operatives who were deployed to Lagos State by the Acting Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris to assist the Lagos State Police Command. . . Sources at the Lagos State Police Command also disclosed to Vanguard that Oba Oseni who was released after a ransom of N12million was allegedly paid to the militants, whose camp is located within the Ijegemo creek in Isheri area of Lagos State. On Sunday,the leader of the militant gang known as Duba Furejo, AKA, General Duba, a native of Arogbo in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, was arrested 5: pm on Saturday, by operatives of the IRT led by CSP Abba Kyari, at Iyana-School area of Iba, while trying to flee to his home town in Ondo State. . . His deputy, Ododomu Isaiah, was equally apprehended 6am on Sunday, in a bus park at Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos, while attempting to board a bus going to Ondo State.General Duba, was also said to have confessed that he has 20 foot soldiers in his camp but eight of them took part in the abduction of the Oba, adding that he got N1million from the N12million paid as ransom for the release of the Oba, while he received another N600,000 as his share from a N3.1million which was paid as ransom before an Igbo trader residing in Iba was released. His deputy, was also said to have gotten N800,000 as his share on the Oba’s ransom and N400,000 from the Igbo trader’s ransom. They also confessed that they gave N800,000 to the informant who gave them information about the Oba’s movements. . .
It will be recalled that the 73 year old monarch was abducted by gunmen on Saturday, July 16, 2016, killing at least three persons including, Palace Security Guide, a 72 year old man.
